Nelson Mandela was like a Dad to many of us and showed us all that losing faith is an option and not an inevitability, and that good men really can make a difference: his life and values made my life richer. May he, and the values he championed, be treasured always

He was the proof that just one person speaking out with conviction CAN change things. My favourite quote from Mandela: “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear”.
PS there’s a typo in your title.

Thank you for that brilliant quote. It says so much about the man and the life he lived. Also thank you for pointing out the typo: only I could do that in a two word title.

It happens to us all. The titles often get missed out during editing 🙂 I’ve been reading your blog on and off for a while – it’s great reading.

We are really feeling his loss here today as well. What a legacy to have created.

I know. He showed us so many things, but for me, his generosity of spirit, powers of forgiveness and courage in the face of prejudice are inspirational. He taught me never to give up, although I sometimes want to.

If only more powerful people would take the attitude of “let bygones be bygones” and not feel the need for revenge, this world would be a better place. A light has indeed gone out.

It has gone out, but his example of how a life may be lived, and difficulties overcome will remain with us always. He was the rarest of men

A lovely tribute Peter, to a very special man, (although that adjective probably wouldnt be one he would use for himself). Thank you for sharing your thoughts. What he did for us all will never be forgotten.

The more you know about him, and the difficulties he overcame, the less likely you are to give up on your own life and values. He made us all want to be bigger people

His passing has certainly reinforced in me how much one can endure with a joyful spirit. I definitely want to be a bigger person.

Yes he did Ina. What is remarkable about him, on one level at least, is that he touched our lives and values publicly and privately, and I know of no one else I can say that about

An amazing man and the world is a poorer place for his loss.

It truly is, but also blessed that he passed through it. I feel privileged that I lived some of my life at the same time as he lived some of his, and could get a greater sense of the living man who inspired and moved so many

I agree, Peter.
A true, beautiful, authentic Hero.
Humanity is better because he was in the world.
It is now a bit diminished.
Love. xx

So well put Peter, the world is a poorer place without him in it but would have been poorer still if he hadn’t had the courage to stand up for what he believed in. Gone but never forgotten, and well we may count our blessings.

Yes, reflecting on his struggles and victories, his perseverance and FAITH is certainly a motivation to believe and act as if the world can be a better place … one individual belief and compassionate act at a time. Beautiful tribute, Peter.
