Cooking Survival Post

Just a quickie to say the steak, chips and veg strategy worked out well and for some reason or other it all tasted reasonable. Of course I remembered the watchword of the uncertain cook. “Don’t forget the wine”, and I think the general drift towards oblivion helped the situation. Everyone stayed chatting till after eleven which is pretty late for a weekday. For us at least.

In the end, seeing my partners eyes start to drift upward as she struggled to stay awake. I said to our guests, “Hope you enjoyed the evening which is now over and your hostess is about to keel over in her chair”. They laughed and left. Good evening all in all without any catering disasters or wine spilt on the carpet

I am glad it was a success. And may I use that line to get rid of long staying guests please?

  2. Glad you cooked a good dinner.
We always stayed over with friends as they did with us, and one time we talked so much, people were out walking dogs in the morning ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d say you can’t go wrong with steak, potatoes, wine and good company. Well done!

totally awesome Ducky my man! Steak and wine — great combination. Hahahah! you sound like my dad, he say’s, “Honey lets go to be so these kind people can go home.” ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Lol.. hey its always a great if you ate good and then you want to go straight to sleep lol. It’s not healthy I get it.. but it sure feels good to sleep after a wonderful meal lol

  7. –Brava!

Everything is better w/ Wine, Ducky.

  8. Loved your Q for your guests to leave!

I hate it when guests outstay their welcome. We were stuck with some people until 3am and they’d
arrived at 7pm! We had to stop refilling their glasses and when they were empty take them away and start to wash up!

  9. Bravo! You know all went well went the hostess passes out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wine helps but my ex-mother-in-law used an equally good trick. She never served her mean on time. We used to tease that she made us wait until we were starving so we would think she was a good cook.

  11. Well done, on both the food and the closing line!

  12. Well done! I have found a new line to use when it is time for our guests to go home! Thanks ๐Ÿ˜‰
